explaining my choice of aesthetic

My overall magazine atheistic was based on a minimalistic design used by many alternative music magazines and to reflect how other Hearst magazine brands such as esquire have changed their covers to be more minimalist in design to be "more collectable"

Hence in my two magazine covers I used a format which was inspired partly by the French alternative music magazine TRAX which used a unconventional cover design which places the cover picture in the centre rather than using a full page splash image and also using bright colours to draw the readers attention. I also took inspiration from the recent issues of esquire which use a similar format but also have cover lines in small font spread across the top of the page. I also drew inspiration from some other alternative music magazines such as Wire to use other unconventional methods such as not using the direct gaze with the cover model

Drawing inspiration from these aspects I put elements of this into my overall magazine cover aesthetic. I used the format of having the image in the centre of the cover and not using a splash image but I also made sure to put bright colours onto the page to make the cover more visually interesting like trax. I also used the minimal cover lines. Overall this meant my magazine aesthetic reflected something similar to hearst's other magazines and also something which conforms to the conventions of alternative music magazines
